Cal South Coaches Association USA. Webinar 2 : Lessons from the World Cup by John Bilton
Streamed live on Sep 10, 2014.
The Webinar will discuss 3 key areas of the Sports Path World Cup Technical Report and offer guidance on how the findings of the report may be utilized to add to your knowledge of the game and impact on your coaching practice. The 3 key areas being … 1. Strikes and Scoring Goals, were you aware that 80% of all goals are scored in a key scoring zone? titled by the authors as the “Gold Zone” (GZ). Even more surprisingly, those goals came from just 20% of all the total strikes. Yes just 20% of the total strikes produce 80% of the total goals and these goals are scored from inside a key scoring zone. More strikes in GZ produce more goals.
2. Delivering into The Gold Zone, once we have established that strikes in GZ are crucial in scoring goals, then how and from where do we deliver the ball into GZ. Yes traditionally most teams prefer to cross the ball from outside the penalty area, is that the most productive delivery area? The research tells us not.
3. Transition of Possession, the final piece of the jigsaw is the use of purposeful possession to enter into the attacking third in order to deliver the ball into the GZ with possession. What are the performance standards we need to aspire to achieve with our team as we attempt to enter into the attacking third, having won the ball back in the defending and middle thirds? What are the elite capable of? These three key areas of performance can be easily monitored; we will show you how and discuss the implications for coaching. Very relevant for winning matches and also developing players.
